Our most-anticipated upcoming PlayStation 4 games

We discuss our top five most-looked-forward-to games on PlayStation 4

We’re fully into 2019 now and as each week goes by in the lead up to upcoming PlayStation 4 games, our excitement continues to grow. With games like Rage 2 and Borderlands 3 confirmed and a strong possibility that we’ll get a glimpse at the PS5, there’s definitely a lot to look forward to in 2019. So without further ado, let’s dive into the list of our most-anticipated PS4 games.

Please note that we’ve listed these games in no particular order and have chosen games with confirmed releases this year.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Release date: July 2019 (TBC)

This brand new co-op experience from MachineGames and Arkane Studios is perfect for gamers that identify with the hunter persona. The sixth instalment of the Wolfenstein series is set in Paris, France in the 1980s just 19 years after BJ Blazkowicz ignited the second American Revolution. Gamers will play as one of BJ’s twin daughters, Jess and Soph, as you search for your missing father in France’s Nazi-occupied capital city.

From watching the trailers, we can say that the animation quality in this first-person shooter (FPS) looks brilliant – a standard that is expected from a game released in 2019, unlike a certain game that disappointed me immensely. In addition to enjoyable animation, players can expect to see new weapon attachments, gadgets, abilities and more for tearing through a Nazi-ridden Paris. You’ll also be able to use improved New Colossus weapons like the Dieselkraftwerk and Laserkraftwerk.

Also playable on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows

Days Gone

Release date: 26 April 2019

Hunters and adventurers – this game is for you. Calling Days Gone a zombie game wouldn’t be entirely accurate as the Freakers (the monsters in the game) aren’t actually dead. However, we can correctly say that SIE Bend Studio’s third-person open-world game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where you’ll play as Deacon St. John whose goal is to survive this hostile environment on the open road. Just so you know, the Freakers – swarms of infected feral creatures – can run pretty quickly, so it’s best to have your bike Drifter nearby at all times. Drifter will act as your transport for outrunning hordes of Freakers, mobile base and probably your last chance at survival.

Days Gone is where players can get creative with the way they kill hordes of infected creatures. In order to stay alive, you’ll need to make the most of upgradeable skills, weapons and customisable traps. The story isn’t all doom and gloom. Expect to see various high-quality stunning landscapes including mountains, mines, caves and small rural towns scarred by visible reminders of intense volcanic activity.

Rage 2

Release date: 14 May 2019

Rage 2 is an FPS with an emphasis on showing off as you shoot down hordes of mutant enemies in a dystopian world. As it’s developed by Avalanche, players can expect a chaotic, colourful open-world experience. The aim of the game is to survive an Earth crawling with disgusting mutants after it was hit by an asteroid. Assuming the role of Walker, Earth’s last ranger, players will wander through a lawless wasteland, battling sadistic gangs in order to acquire the tech you need to squash the self-proclaimed military power Authority.

The graphics quality, the sound effects, the anisotropic filtering, the smoothness of movement, all of it looks very impressive! Players can expect vehicular combat using beasts like monster trucks and gyrocopters, a beautifully designed environment, an array of devastating weaponry and enormous boss-like monsters to kill.

Also playable on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Release date: 2019 (TBC)

Set shortly after Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, gamers will play as Cal Kestis, a young force user and budding Jedi with loads of potential. Cal survived the initial attack of the infamous Order 66 and is now on the run being hunted by the Second Sister. Ah, let’s not forget that there’ll also be Purge Troopers hunting Cal as well.

Players can expect gameplay that is heavy on melee combat and be ready to use their Jedi training to create various melee combinations with the help of an innovative lightsaber combat system and Force abilities.
It’s important to note that although it’ll feature fighting, puzzle-solving and exploration, it isn’t an open-world game. Furthermore, Jedi: Fallen Order is solely a single-player game – no multiplayer and no DLC.

Also playable on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows

Borderlands 3

Release date: 13 September 2019

The original looter-shooter is back! Borderlands 3 will be packed with tons of guns for a brand new mayhem-fueled adventure. Fans will be happy to know that popular characters like Ellie, Lilith and Sir Hammerlock will return in this instalment. Players can also expect to meet new characters such as:

  • Amara – a new addition to the Siren class with a melee-focused combat style
  • FL$K – aka “The Beast Master” is a non-binary robot joining the Hunter class and has a soft spot for critters
  • Moze – let’s just say that Moze brings something new to the Gunner class table
  • Zane – expect to see “The Operative” in the Assassin class utilising a drone to assist with dealing damage in battle

What we’re really excited for are the guns. There’ll be a billion of them – some even with legs that can fire without human assistance! Who wouldn’t want to play a game where guns can walk.

Also playable on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows
